Art and healing

Last Spring, when Grandpa passed away, I was near the end of my semester at MCTC. In my Drawing 1 class, our assignment was to use pen, ink and ink wash to create a graphic novel — a short graphic novel, thankfully. As I was in the midst of my grieving, all I could see were images from the hospital as we all gathered around him to be in his amazing presence at the end of his life and to say goodbye. As the anniversary of his passing gets closer, I am reminded of how strong and good a man he was, how much he accomplished in his life with how little he had to begin with, and how much I love and miss him. The pages of the graphic novel, above, are what I created to help myself work through the process of losing him from this life.
